Published: Friday 12 March, 2010

The earliest Nike Air Jordan basketball shoes were released amidst much fanfare and even controversy in 1985. The original Air Jordans model carried the winged basketball print that became popularly known as one of Air Jordans two brand logos. The winged basketball is found on the first three models of the Air Jordan shoes, either on the ankle part or on the shoe tongue. The fourth version of the Air Jordan in 1987 had the logo of a basketball player on the position of going for a slam dunk called the jumpman.

Such logo is found on sides, sole or tongue of the Jordan shoes, depending on the model of Air Jordan. It was in the eighties when Nike Company came out with some new and innovative shoe designs created for the sports that have always been a major supporter of Nike. During such period, Nike also made a major headline by negotiating a contract with basketball superstar Michael Jordan, a contract that would turn out to be the start of a long and enduring relationship between the two. The next two decades saw Nike carrying out a line of Air Jordan shoes of different models and styles, even after Michaels retirement from the National Basketball Association.
